bread Bread Is So 2009I don’t do the resolution thing. I’ve found in the past that they are simply a way for people to make themselves look good to friends and family, but in the end it’s all empty promises. If you’re going to make a commitment you should stick to it. And who says you can only resolve to start or change something on January 1st. that’s why rather than make some cooking resolutions, I’m just going to try and make adjustments. I’ll try to make sushi at some point at home, a task I’ve only done on a few occasions to the horror of my eyes. more…

amysedaris Amy Sedaris On The Today Show: I Like YouIf you like to read words in book form then you are probably somewhat familiar with the Sedaris name. David Sedaris is a fantastic author of witty and humorous stories on life, and I’ll pick up Me Talk Pretty One Day on numerous occasions throughout the year. His far more attractive sister Amy is a renowned television personality. OK, renowned if you enjoy smart humor and Stephen Colbert. Both things you should enjoy. more…

lecirque TV Preview Le Cirque: A Table In HeavenIt’s almost been a year since our freezing foray into the Sundance Film Festival. While we tried to watch everything possible, there are only so many hours in a day. And when you’re talking about reviewing those films it becomes even more daunting. Not to mention that many films we saw have yet to see release, while others came out mere weeks later. One film the Cinema Blend staff missed out on was the documentary A Table In Heaven. more…

altocinco Dining Out: Alto Cinco Is The Best Place For Mexican FoodI love Mexican food. Not the Ortega boxed taco kits, although those are OK in a pinch. I’m talking some real tasty authentic Mexican. Where you get generous portions of rice and beans to accompany your tasty burrito, or heck how about some tostadas? You rarely find the flat tasty treat at the average Mexican joint, and for such a simple dish that’s a travesty. Those of us here in Syracuse have limited choice in Mexican fare. more…

pizza1 Pizza Delivery FailureThe problem with making pizza at home is you have to deal with preparing the dough, which is a torturous process. Then you have to decide on what kind of pizza to make. If we’re honest with ourselves we try too hard when making pizza at home, when what we really want is a slice of pepperoni pie. So that’s why there’s takeout and delivery. more…

bk Burger Kings Flame Broiled Scent O LoveThanks to Burger King the scent of love is flame broiled. Just like the famous excuse for a burger The Whopper, anyone can smell like they’ve spent hours sitting under a heat lamp soaking in their own juices. “Flame” is Burger King’s new men’s body spray. Yup, I said that BK has released a body spray. Described as “the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat.” more…

kitchen Your Tiny Kitchen Is Not An ExcuseIn evidence of when you have an idea go for it quickly, I was disappointed to see Mark Bittman’s article in the New York Times about tiny kitchens. See, I’ve been working in tiny home kitchens for 6 or so years now. I’ve complained about the lack of counter space, and the lack of cupboard space to put the tools away. I’ve bemoaned my horribly inefficient stove top, which has two settings: high and almost off. There’s no control in between, and I often find myself adjusting up and down to get the temp I desire. more…
