Arby’s new marketing campaign for the Roast Burger has me confuzzled. The conceit is that fast food burgers are super greasy, and the Roast Burger is not. But here’s the thing: there are far worse things about fast food burgers to be worried about than greasiness. Any burger is “greasy” owing to the fact that proper burger meat contains fat. The Roast Burger is not a burger at all, but instead the classic roast beef sandwich with fixins.
The new commercial has artist Phil Hansen recreating the Mona Lisa using fast food burgers as brushes, and the grease as paint. It’s disgusting and mind blowing all at the same time. You’ll notice in the video posted below that he orders 10 hamburgers from some fast food location, but on the table from which Hansen works are far more than 10 burgers. I’m not immune to the fact that marketing campaigns are often intentionally disingenuous to make a point. And really, what food lover out there would defend the fast food burger. One of the world’s greatest travesties.
But here I am. Not defending the fast food mess that is a burger, but the grease that comes along. Heck, if there’s grease involved from the cooking process I’m going to mark that as a win for those miserable excuses for a burger. Judge for yourself by watching the video below.
