It’s the third Thursday in November, and that means two things: Next week is Thanksgiving, and Beaujolais Nouveau is now available. This is a young version of Beaujolais, with the Gamay grapes being handpicked and the bottles shipped around 7 weeks after fermentation. There are specific rules on what makes a Nouveau, and one is the release time frame. It’s a good way to hit up the market with some hype just as people are preparing to make trips and attend the biggest dinner party of the year.
I’ve always like Beaujolais, but never really got into the Nouveau situation. Perhaps this year I’ll give it a try. This is the variety to try new things with as most bottles will cost you in $12 range or less. Plus there’s the added benefit of it being a nice light and fruity wine to enjoy on these cold fall days.
But there you have it. If you’ve been waiting for the release of Beaujolais Nouveau before trekking to the in-laws house next week, it’s here.
