I’m not sure if you’re aware, but it’s almost voting time! While it’s looking like more and more younger voters will be hitting the polls this year – I’ll believe that when it actually happens, college kids often have good idealistic intentions they don’t follow up on – the public at large still needs to get into the act of voting. And if doing your duty as a citizen of the United States, not to mention helping emplace someone you actually want in the White House, then Ben & Jerry’s has a creamy incentive for you.
Participating Ben & Jerry’s shops will be offering a free scoop of ice cream on November 4th from 5 to 8 p.m. All you have to do is “prove” you voted. The rules are quite lax: “Show us your ‘I Voted’ sticker, a photo of you in front of your polling station, do the ‘I Voted dance,’ or just tell us you voted.” Of course I expect a lot of people to take the time to go and pretend to do an “I Voted dance,” which is silly because in the same amount of time you could vote and just tell the store you did so.
Whatever it takes to get people out to vote I’m behind, so I applaud Ben & Jerry’s for the initiative.
