Local Lemons, a blog dedicated to things local but not limited to lemons, has issued a challenge to the world. OK, maybe it’s not a challenge but when I’m told to eat the dreaded Big Mac I take it as one. Before you turn away in disgust, we’re talking home made Big Macs. And these particular burgers are taken even further with a list of ingredients that are all local and sustainable. Not a bad way to prove that while the fast food chain may be serving corn sweetened slop, the general idea of the Big Mac is still a large satisfying burger.
Allison opted to mimic the famed special sauce by combining an olive oil aioli with a homemade French dressing. It’s a tasty option, but I think I’ll be tackling this burger for dinner tonight with one major tweak. The Big Mac sauce is actually some unknown variation of Thousand Island. Personally I think it’s just Thousand Island produced by the McDonald’s company. Nevertheless I’ll be producing my own.
Check out Allison’s fine work in taking the double stack burger back from the fast food joint and into the kitchen. [Local Lemons]
