I swear that I have not declared today Ted Allen day, nor do I have a fixation on the fellow. It just so happens that he posted an update on his blog over the weekend and at the same time I decide to sit down and write a quick piece on his leaving Top Chef I come across the blog post detailing upcoming items on his agenda. Besides enigmatic statements about some funny show he’s working on, Allen has confirmed that Food Network is picking up his new show Food Detectives for a second 13 episode season.
Allen does explain his reasoning for leaving Top Chef’s Judges Table. Given the choice between hosting his own show or being a guest judge on someone else’s the choice is easy. Good for him, and I doubt anyone would make a different decision. I just hope the crew of Food Detectives do take to heart some of the criticisms sent along. The show’s premise has the potential to be a great addition to my food watching habits. But in the current format it’s a bit cheesy, and not in the home sewn costume chicanery of Good Eats.
Allen gives no word on when Food Detectives will return but does say: “We’re going back into production ASAP, and we’re bringing on new blood to smooth over the bumps that some of you were kind enough to point out (ahem) in season one.”
