lecirque TV Preview Le Cirque: A Table In HeavenIt’s almost been a year since our freezing foray into the Sundance Film Festival. While we tried to watch everything possible, there are only so many hours in a day. And when you’re talking about reviewing those films it becomes even more daunting. Not to mention that many films we saw have yet to see release, while others came out mere weeks later. One film the Cinema Blend staff missed out on was the documentary A Table In Heaven. Now as another Sundance looms on the horizon I have the chance to catch up on this tale of a family culinary empire tomorrow night on HBO.

Le Cirque: A Table In Heaven tells the story of Le Cirque founder Sirio Maccioni and his three sons after the closing of the iconic NYC restaurant in 2004. That restaurant closing is one of the finale big events in the culinary world, where nowadays openings and closings are regarded with a ho-hum attitude. The documentary takes a look at not only the restaurant’s closing, but it’s rebirth two years later at the Bloomberg building. Not only that but viewers are treated to an inside look at what it takes to run a family restaurant of such high caliber.

Le Cirque is a culinary landmark, and it may surprise some people to realize how much goes into raising a family based around the restaurant business. Now with Sirio’s sons – Mauro, Marco and Mario – preparing to take over the empire A Table In Heaven provides a portrait of such a world.

Le Cirque: A Table In Heaven premieres on HBO Monday, December 29th at 8:00 pm.
