There’s fudge and pie. Decadent sweet treats like praline, and of course cakes. But for me, and I think it’s safe to assume for most of you, the cookie is the greatest holiday treat. My family were always purists with the chocolate chip and Christmas tree sugar cookies making the rounds at least a few times each Holiday season. But those aren’t the only cookies to be had. Sour cream twists are a tradition in our household, and new ideas such as thumbprint cookies rear their head every now and then.
But what are the best of the best when it comes to cookies? Gourmet has put together a list of their favorite cookie recipes from 1941-2008. The recipes themselves are unchanged, although some of the older recipes have explanations added so the modern cook gets what is up with some of the old ingredients and instruction styles.
Personally I still think the chocolate chip is the best cookie money can buy. It has everything a cookie needs, and there’s a reason it has become a classic. Still, a snickerdoodle now and then wouldn’t hurt. Go take a look at Gourmet’s extensive list and make yourself a new cookie for the 2008 Holiday season.
