It’s not odd for popular items to sell out at stores during the Holiday season. But typically shoppers turn to online retailers to pick up the stuff they missed at the store. Not the case for Thomas Keller’s latest culinary tome, Ad Hoc at Home. The book is sold out at Amazon, and on Barnes & Noble’s online store. Third parties are asking for up to $183 for the book.
Unlike in past years though, this particular item is still available at stores. In fact Sunday evening before seeing Avatar for the second time my wife and I went into Williams Sonoma to “laugh at the exorbitantly high prices on all the gizmos.” While perusing around I saw Ad Hoc and took a look. Sadly it was still encased in plastic wrap, and there was only one copy. I thought at the time I’d pick it up a little later, but it appears hunting down this book might be more of a challenge than I’d imagined.
