Everyone knows about your classic Italian sausage. Andouille is now nearly a staple in grocery stores. But where do you go to find the world’s biggest sausage? It may surprise some of you to learn that Serbia is the place to go, in particular Turija. National Geographic has a photo of this year’s sausage from the 25th annual sausage festival in Turija. This is not an all male gathering, but a celebration of ground up meat and spices encased in what I assume is manufactured casing. Otherwise there are some obscenely large animals roaming the Serbian countryside.
This year’s sausage measures in at 6,643 feet. Each year at the festival the sausage makers of Turija reup their claim on the Guinness record by making a sausage that is 1 centimeter longer than the previous year.
