pollan1 Is Sustainable Agriculture Able To Rid Itself Of Being Just A Fad?Looking around it’s come to my attention that the whole eat local, eat fresh mantra of the foodie is a fad. Grass fed beef from a local farm is a quaint idea in today’s world, and an expensive one. I’ve discovered first hand the difficulty of trying to make such a change work. And it often reminds me of the times in the past when I vowed to exercise more, or just generally eat healthy. Now there’s this simple concept that it’s not how much you eat, or your caloric intake, but what you’re eating that matters. more…

pig Michael Ruhlman Breaks Down A PigMichael Ruhlman broke a pig down this weekend. So uh, what did you do? Ruhlman, who is a fantastic food author, took the time to get down and dirty with a Berkshire pig he found raised and slaughtered humanely. You can read the sordid tale of woe that is breaking down such a large animal over at his blog. But the reason for my own comments is that there are questions of viability brought up when it comes to something like this. more…
