Anyone who has conducted an interview, especially over the phone, knows what a blessing and a curse these conversations can be. Such was the case when I spoke with Food Network’s Adam Gertler about his new show, Will Work For Food. We were both on a time constraint, which meant I couldn’t get into the Syracuse food scene as much as I wanted. Walking into a restaurant called Tokyo Seoul you may expect to find contemporary Asian fusion cuisine. In a way you find just that, depending on how you choose to enjoy your experience at the family run restaurant on the East side of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Kim met in Seoul, South Korea and just knew that the food they found there was fantastic. I love Mexican food. Not the Ortega boxed taco kits, although those are OK in a pinch. I’m talking some real tasty authentic Mexican. Where you get generous portions of rice and beans to accompany your tasty burrito, or heck how about some tostadas? You rarely find the flat tasty treat at the average Mexican joint, and for such a simple dish that’s a travesty. Those of us here in Syracuse have limited choice in Mexican fare. more…
Anthony Bourdain is great at a lot of things, and one of them is getting me thinking. Sometimes it’s about rotten fish from Iceland, and other times it’s about my fantasy meal. When interviewed by the New York Post’s Page Six he was asked what his fantasy meal would be. Bourdain responded: “Chef Marco Pierre White and Keith Richards would be throwing something on the Barbie in a backyard in Red Hook.” more…
