This “everything’s better with bacon on it” concept needs to be tested. But that’s for another time. Right now let’s focus on Top Chef, and what may be the first professionally made parody music video based on a popular food competition show. The guys over at Funny or Die have posted the video showing Gail Simmons critiquing Ashley, Bryan, and Mattin from the most recent season. more…

Chinese chefs have designed a dish that is likely to cause many Westerners to exclaim, “Aw…that poor fishy.” Deep fried carp that is still alive when eaten. Outside of the Western world many cultures eat what we’d consider “weird” food. Sometimes it’s as simple as a whole fish head, or organs we normally toss in the garbage. more…
I guess the following video has gotten quite popular recently. Is it because the couple is so adorable? Or perhaps it’s the bride and her continuous shrieks after her husband “waffles” his way through the vows. I’m existing in a world of confusion this morning. more…
I can’t personally attest to the quality of a Hardee’s burger, even the Western Bacon Thickburger. What I do know is that while she is the host of Top Chef, Padma Lakshmi does have a pretty defined palette. She will often be the one that tells a cheftestant the food they made was just wrong, and then prove it by spitting it back up in a napkin. I can’t remember the last time Tom Colicchio did anything similar. more…
The two parts of a date that used to cause me trepidation were the ordering of wine, and the final moments when I dropped a girl off. I never went for the swirling around and slurping of wine situation, simply because I felt it looked pretentious. Not that I’m ignorant to the reasons, I just didn’t want to look like an idiot. So I check for sediment, give it a quick whirl, sniff and taste to ensure it’s OK and call it good. more…
Stephen Colbert only interviews the best of the best. After all they have to match up to his level of pure oozing patriotic awesomeness. Mark Bittman was recently on The Colbert Report, and while Bittman is not an overly gregarious fellow (more your average joe) the 6 minute interview is rife with hilarity. more…
Whether you find garbage or a treasure, you’re sure to find something on the internet. Take the video below: someone put a video camera on a sushi conveyor belt, capturing the reactions of eaters and chefs alike as they realized they were the subject of some weird social experiment. Or maybe, like most of the videos you find on the internet, people just do weird and crazy stuff…only now it’s posted on the internet. more…
If you buy a box of toy food, what exactly are your supposed to do with it? I’m asking as an adult, clearly as a child there are worlds of imaginative opportunity. Neil Cicierega has the perfect answer: write a song about toy food. Even better write a chorus that goes: “Toy food / Like real food, but is toy / Toy Food / Not real food, do not eat.” Brilliant. more…
The problem with making pizza at home is you have to deal with preparing the dough, which is a torturous process. Then you have to decide on what kind of pizza to make. If we’re honest with ourselves we try too hard when making pizza at home, when what we really want is a slice of pepperoni pie. So that’s why there’s takeout and delivery. more…
This week’s Top Chef sees the cheftestants competing for a spot on NBC’s Today Show. It also features questionable celebrity chef Rocco Dispirito. Now, I’m normally a defender of the celebrity chef as it’s own viable option for chefs and cooks. I don’t particularly like the bubbly nature of Rachel Ray, but damn if the woman isn’t a brilliant businesswoman. more…
